There are applications where the use of a pad smaller than the standard 60V heater is useful. For example, a 30V pad may be used to advantage for the heat treatment of small-bore pipework butt welds. In addition, 30V pads may be used for application to pressure vessel surfaces near to nozzles or attachments - the 30V heaters may be applied locally to areas where unacceptably large spaces arise between larger pads.

The 30V pads can be connected as a pair in series to a 60V supply, subject to the pads performing a similar function. Alternatively they can be connected directly to a 30V supply either individually or in groups connected in parallel.
